“Prayaas” - An effort towards cleanliness
New Delhi, 16th November 2019:
A clean-up drive was organised by GRIHA Council in association with Green Dream Foundation at Hauz Khas on 16th November, 2019 which resulted in collection, segregation and disposal of waste at Hauz Khas Village parking area. The clean-up drive "Prayaas" was an effort towards cleanliness and to generate awareness and drive action among the people of New Delhi about ill- impacts of littering and inefficient waste management
Depicting a rich cultural heritage in the capital, the Hauz Khas Fort is littered with a huge waste dump. This kind of land pollution is not only spoiling the beautiful landscape but also is a threat to the local biodiversity. Illegal burning of such litter also contributes significantly to air pollution in a city which is one of the most polluted in the world already.
Through this clean- up activity GRIHA Council in association with Green Dream Foundation (GDF) would also be supporting the “Swachh Bharat Mission” a nation-wide campaign that aims to clean up the streets, roads and infrastructure of India's cities, towns, urban and rural areas.
The clean-up drive witnessed more than 60 volunteers including the officials from South Municipal Corporation (South Zone) who collected more than 300 kg waste in the parking area of Hauz Khas Village and handed over to the SDMC for further disposal. This drive helped in encouraging the public to keep their surroundings clean and manage waste to the extent that it does not harm the environment through segregation, recycling and proper disposal.
