Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment

January 2023

Mr. Sanjay Seth, CEO GRIHA Council

As we move into the year 2023 with renewed hope and the promise of new beginnings, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year.

We successfully concluded the year 2022 with the first full-fledged offline summit after the pandemic. The 14th GRIHA Summit with the theme ‘Towards Net Positive Habitats’ was aligned towards India’s commitment at COP 26 of a 5-point approach or panchamrit to achieve net zero emissions by 2070 as an ambitious step towards tackling climate change. Achieving climate neutrality requires an all-of-economy and society approach making it the responsibility of every industry to partner with the government towards meeting this ambitious target.

In keeping with these commitments, GRIHA Council launched the Decarbonizing Habitat Programme at the World Urban Forum in Katowice, Poland in June 2022. We also initiated new certification programmes of Net Zero Energy; Water and Waste Certifications. Consequent to the launch, new partnerships have emerged from organizations such as 2000-Watts-Smart-Cities Association to work in a collaborative manner towards achieving carbon neutrality.

The Summit was graced by the presence of several dignitaries such as H.E. Mr. Freddy Svane, Ambassador, Royal Danish Embassy, New Delhi; Ms. Leena Nandan, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India; H.E. Dr. Ralf Heckner, Ambassador, Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi; Mr. Sonam Wangchuk, Founding Director, Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL); Mr. Sharman Joshi, Renowned Indian Film Actor and many more.

I also take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the esteemed dignitaries; GRIHA awardees; participants; partners of the 14th GRIHA Summit and the TERI and GRIHA Team for the success of the 14th GRIHA Summit 2022. GRIHA Council has developed long-standing associations with multiple stakeholders working towards the common goal of implementing sustainable and low carbon footprint buildings over the years. In the year 2022, GRIHA Council signed important MoUs with Bhopal Smart City Development Corporation Limited, Sheffield Hallam University, International Copper Association, Life Insurance Corporation of India, and 2000-Watts-Smart-Cities Association to promote sustainable habitats.

I am also very pleased to inform you all that GRIHA has made new strides by crossing its national boundaries with the Government of Bangladesh recognising GRIHA a valid green building rating system.

I am grateful for the support, faith and confidence reposed on the GRIHA Council and we resolve to deliver sustainable habitat with credibility, integrity, and inclusivity in the year ahead.

Once again, I on behalf of GRIHA Council convey my heartiest greetings to you and your near and dear ones for the year 2023.
