Paryavaran Rakshak

GRIHA Council and Environmental Education and Awareness, TERI jointly hosted a contest "Paryavaran Rakshak" from 27th March, 2019 to 12th April, 2019 wherein the schools showcased their work on aspects of sustainability. The contest has received overwhelming response with more than 75 entries from states such as Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Goa, Maharashtra, Delhi and so on.

To honor and felicitate the best entries in various domains, a concluding event was organized on 6th May, 2019 at Juniper Hall, India Habitat Centre. The winning schools were: Delhi Public School, NTPC, Vidyut Nagar, Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, Kasiga School, Dehradun, Army Public School, Bangalore and Delhi Public School, Mihan, Nagpur.

GRIHA Council also unveiled its variant "GRIHA for Existing Day Schools" version 2. This simple rating tool is designed to evaluate the environmental performance of existing schools across India. The rating familiarizes the students and teachers with the concepts of sustainability by involving students under the guidance of their teachers to evaluate the environmental impact of schools on the environment. The winning schools were registered for the "GRIHA for Existing Day Schools" rating at no cost. Also, a GRIHA App was launched to keep an active link with the schools. This platform would enable various schools to interact with each other and learn form the best practices and interactive sessions.

The programme was followed by a very innovative workshop to provide hands on training to students and teachers to assess the various sustainability parameters in their premises.
