About GRIHA Council
Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) Council is an autonomous, not for profit society jointly set up by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India to promote and administer the development of sustainable buildings and habitats in India through GRIHA. GRIHA Council is recognized as the ‘National Rating System for Green Buildings in India’. GRIHA Council evaluates the environmental performance of a building holistically over its entire life cycle, thereby providing a definitive standard for green buildings and sustainable habitats.
GRIHA Summit
Over the years, GRIHA Council has been hosting its annual summits to deliberate on issues of national discourse in association with distinguished entities from national and international spheres, encompassing government bodies, industry partners, multilateral and bilateral organizations, academia and building practitioners. The past summits had been designed on themes such as “Empowering Sustainable and Resilient Communities”, “Towards Net Positive Habitats”, “Restoring Green Economy” and “Transforming Habitats”.
The 16th GRIHA Summit
The 16th GRIHA Summit is scheduled to be held on 4th- 5th December 2024 at India Habitat Center, Lodhi Road, New Delhi, India on the theme “Accelerating Climate Action in the Built Environment”. Climate change mitigation is a race against time due to rapid environmental damage, thus there is an urgent need to accelerate climate action. Towards this, GRIHA Council aims to address the urgent need to adopt sustainable practices in the built environment whilst advancing innovative solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.
This year GRIHA Council is pleased to introduce the GRIHA Regional Conclaves for the development of sustainable habitats and resilient communities at the regional level. The GRIHA Regional Conclaves for this fiscal year are conducting in Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Jaipur.
Introduction to Prelude event
Every year GRIHA Council organizes Prelude events which serve as an invitation to the annual flagship summit for the green building industry stakeholders and the public. The prelude events set the tone for the upcoming summit and are designed with the objective to spread awareness amongst multiple stakeholders on the topics of environmental concern. In the past, under the prelude event, GRIHA Council organized Mud and Bamboo Architecture, clean-up drives, plantation drives, Nukkad Natak and many more competitions for students under Paryavaran Rakshak Programme.
The winners under various competitions under Paryavaran Rakshak Programme 2.0 were:

PARYAVARAN RAKSHAK PROGRAMME 3.0
As a prelude to the 16th GRIHA Summit, GRIHA Council is organizing a ‘Green Carnival’ under its “Paryavaran Rakshak Programme 3.0”. The intent of event is to highlight the vital role of students and individuals in advancing the climate action programmes. The programme will provide numerous opportunities to participants to engage and showcase their understanding on the concept of climate action in their unique and innovative ways.
The event will provide participants numerous opportunities to interact and demonstrate their comprehension on the idea of climate action in creative ways. The Green Carnival will feature several activities, such as:
- Plogging
- The Drama Carnival
- Musical Parody
- Reel Competition
- Model Making Exhibition
Plogging
An eco-friendly event in collaboration with NGOs "Plogging for a Cleaner Community", where fitness meets environmental stewardship. Plogging, a blend of jogging and picking up litter, is a fun and impactful way to get active while making a positive difference in our environment. Date shall be announced soon. We invite schools, NGOs, Market associations, individuals, etc. to participate in the event.
Spotlights:
- Plogging activity:
Participants will engage in a group plogging session, combining the benefits of jogging with the act of collecting trash. Equipped with gloves and trash bags, we'll jog through designated routes, picking up litter along the way to keep our community clean and green.
- Health and wellness:
Enjoy a refreshing workout as you plog through scenic routes. This activity is not only great for physical fitness but also promotes mental well-being by connecting with nature and contributing to a cleaner environment.
- Environmental education
Learn about the impact of litter on our local ecosystems and discover simple tips for reducing waste and promoting sustainability in your daily life.
Registration fees: The registration fee for participating in the plogging activity is INR 500 per school/institution/individual.
The Drama Carnival
Theme: Building Tomorrow - Green and Smart
We invite participations from school, drama school or individuals across the country to showcase their understanding on the theme “Building Tomorrow - Green and Smart”. The intent of this event is to aware participants about the importance of building a smarter future with technologies that imparts a comfortable and healthy environment through the varying performances.
The shortlisted participants would be performing theatrical dramas on stage which may include dialogues, songs, props, costumes, etc.
Eligibility:
All schools, drama schools and individuals are eligible to participate in this competition.
Pre-requisites:
- I. Conceptual note (150-250 words) of the idea to be performed at the event.
- II. A glimpse of 1-to-2-minute video recording of their performance.
Guidelines:
- I. Any individual or a group with maximum of 10 participants will be allowed to participate.
- II. Language for the performance can be either Hindi or English or both.
- III. Pre-recorded dialogues and background music will be allowed as a part of the competition.
- IV. Duration of the final performance should not be more than 8-10 minutes.
- V. Participants will use their own costumes, props, any other special effects required for the performance.
Registration fees:
The registration fee for participating in the Drama Carnival competition is INR 1000 per performance.

Musical Parody
Theme: Climate war
The musical parody competition on the theme of "Climate war", to serve as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility, wrapped in the joy of music and satire in a creative way to spark conversation and inspire action while keeping the mood upbeat.
The parodies would use familiar melodies and playful lyrics to highlight the urgency of climate action while keeping the message engaging and memorable.
- Choosing a popular song
- Rewriting the lyrics on defined theme
- May use some visuals during the performance through props.
Eligibility:
All schools, institutions and individuals are eligible to participate in this competition.
Pre-requisites:
- I. A glimpse of 1 minute audio-video recording of their preparation for the performance.
Guidelines:
- I. Any individual or group with maximum of 5 participants will be allowed to participate in the competition.
- II. Language for the performance can be either Hindi or English or both.
- III. Duration of the final performance should not be more than 5 minutes.
- IV. Participants will use their own instruments, costumes, props, any other special effects required for the performance.
Registration fees:
The registration fee for participating in the Musical Parody competition is INR 500 per performance.

Reel Competition
Theme: The burning Earth
Join us for a trendy competition - "The Burning Earth" a reel-making competition dedicated to exploring the urgent and complex issue of climate change.
The competition invites participants to shoot some glimpse from regular life and prepare their most compelling and insightful reels on the environmental challenges we face every-day.
Eligibility:
All schools, institutions and individuals are eligible to participate in this competition.
Pre-requisites:
- I. Conceptual note (150-250 words) and a few seconds of the video clip showing the idea.
Guidelines:
- I. Any individual or group with maximum of 5 participants will be allowed to participate in the competition.
- II. Language for the reels can be either Hindi or English or both.
- III. Duration of the final performance should not be more than 1 minute.
- IV. Participants must ensure that the video clips they present are original and created by themselves.
Registration fees:
The registration fee for participating in the Movie competition is INR 500 per performance.

Model Making Exhibition
Theme: The past and the future
Step into a captivating journey through time with "The Past and The Future" a model making exhibition that celebrates the evolution and innovation within the built environment.
This competition explores the creative visions of students by reflecting on historical architectural styles while envisioning sustainability future possibilities.
Eligibility:
Any student or group of students from schools are eligible to participate in this exhibition.
Pre-requisites:
- I. Conceptual note to be displayed with the model to be submitted.
Guidelines:
- I. Any individual or group with maximum of 5 participants will be allowed to participate in the competition.
- II. The model must be prepared with the materials which is based on the principles of 5Rs – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot.
- III. The size of the model shall not exceed 2’ x 2’.
Registration fees:
The registration fee for participating in the model making exhibition is INR 1000 per performance.
Important date:
Submission of concept note and work in progress model’s photographs: 20th September 2024
General Guidelines:
- School students of standard 5th to 12th are only allowed to participate in the activities and competitions.
- All entries, consisting of audio-video recordings/concept notes for drama carnival, musical parody, reel competition and model making exhibition (as registered) shall be submitted at grihacouncil.paryavaranrakshak@gmail.com
- Send your entries with the subject line and file name- “Competition Name_School Name_Student Name”.
- Late submissions will not be entertained.
- Submission of both concept notes, and audio-video recordings (wherever applicable) is mandatory, failing which the entries will not be evaluated.
- The soft copy file of the concept notes and videos should not be corrupted or incomplete or in low resolution.
- Any misconduct such as exposing identity through school/ institution name, participant(s) name in the videos or through exhibits during the final presentation will be disqualified.
- All entries will be evaluated by a jury. Decisions by jury will be final.
- All short-listed entries shall be informed via email and shall be called to present their submissions during Paryavaran Rakshak Programme 3.0.
- Travel cost and stay arrangements will be borne by the respective schools/institutions/individuals.
- For the event, teachers/parents have to accompany the students taking part in the competition.
- All entries must be innovative and original.
