World Circular Economy

Mr. Sanjay Seth, Vice President & CEO, GRIHA Council and Senior Director, Sustainable Habitat Programme, TERI and Ms. Shabnam Bassi, Dy. CEO, GRIHA Council attended the World Circular Economy Forum in Helsinki, Finland.

Finland and Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, launched a global effort called WCED. The first Forum, WCEF 2017, highlighted global solutions and lessons learned while identifying critical components of a circular economy. WCEF aims at bringing experts from different industries (business leaders, policymakers etc.) and deliberate on the ‘game-changers’ in the circular economy.

The circular economy should be viewed as both a component of the larger picture of economic, societal, and cultural transformation required to achieve the EDG and SDGs as well as an instrument for achieving decoupling of economic growth from resource use and environmental impacts in practice (for strengthening resilience and strategic autonomy). It is known that the circular economy reduces resource use and impacts on the built environment.
