About NASA India

The National Association of Students of Architecture (NASA) India is the largest architectural student body of Indian sub-continent with more than 200 member colleges. The main aim of NASA India is to facilitate interaction among students of architecture from all over the country and provide a knowledge sharing platform. NASA India holds several events at the zonal level and one annual convention at the national level. GRIHA & NASA Collaboration

GRIHA & NASA Collaboration

GRIHA council and NASA India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly promote the concept of green buildings and sustainable habitat through the GRIHA platform and sensitize students towards sustainable design. As part of this MoU, GRIHA Council and NASA shall cooperate to execute the GRIHA trophy at NASA annual conventions. Students from NASA member colleges across the country participate to compete for the GRIHA Trophy, which is adjudged by a prominent jury. The winning entries get showcased during the annual GRIHA Summit, where students are invited to share their designs and schemes with participating delegates.

Trophy: 2023-24

The GRIHA Trophy architectural design completion was launched in 2013-14 and conducted successfully once again this year 2023-24. The brief for this year’s competition involved designing a Multifunctional Promenade at Puri, Odisha incorporating innovative strategies that transcend conventional boundaries. The design was expected to serve as a catalyst for positive socio-economic impact, intertwining cultural richness and modern functionality.

More than 80 colleges from all over India submitted their entries for the competition. Out of these 12 entries were shortlisted for the audio-visual round. The jury panel included Mr. Ankit Bhalla, Manager – GRIHA Council, Dr. G. Shankar, Founder & Chairman, Habitat Technology Group and Ms. Soumya R, Sustainability Lead, Buildings & Infrastructure, KIIFB.

Design entry of Department of Architecture, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology was declared the winner, followed by three special mentions: National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada and Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

Trophy: 2022-23

The GRIHA Trophy architectural design completion was launched in 2013-14 and conducted successfully once again this year 2022-23. The brief for this year’s competition involved retrofitting of the Corporate Office for Mentor Graphics in Noida into a 150-bedded general hospitals using adaptive reuse techniques ensuring carbon footprint reduction. The design was expected to be in accordance with GRIHA v2019 Rating System and, the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculations for the retrofitted design were expected to be submitted.

More than 50 colleges from all over India submitted their entries for the competition. Out of these 10 entries were shortlisted for the audio-visual round. The jury panel included Ms. Shabnam Bassi, Deputy CEO - GRIHA Council, Mr. Ankit Bhalla, Manager – GRIHA Council, Ar. Shaon Sikta Sengupta, Director & Head, NCR: Edifice consultants Pvt. Ltd., Ar. Shreya Srivastava, Founder and Principal Architect, Studio Shunya and Mr. Venugopal, Marketing head: Saint-Gobain India Private Limited - Glass Business.

Design entry of L S Raheja School of Architecture was declared the winner, followed by two special mentions; Faculty of Architecture, Sarvajanik College of Engineering and Technology and National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli.

Trophy: 2021-22

The GRIHA Trophy architectural design completion was launched in 2013-14 and conducted successfully once again this year 2021-22. The brief for this year’s competition involved designing of the prestigious GST Building for Government of India. The site was located in Kamla Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad and had a net plot area of 8,959.1 m2. The design was expected to be in accordance with GRIHA v2019 Rating System.

More than 50 colleges from all over India submitted their entries for the competition. Out of these 16 entries were shortlisted for the audio visual round. The panel of the jury included, Ar. The GRIHA Trophy at the 63rd Annual NASA Convention (Virtual event) on 22nd March 2021

The GRIHA Trophy architectural design completion was launched in 2013-14 and conducted successfully once again this year 2020-21. The trophy brief required the students to design Affordable housing for EWS group in New Delhi. The design for a EWS dwelling typically comprises an all-weather single unit or a unit in a multi-storeyed super structure having a carpet area of up to 30 square meters per dwelling unit. The design should tend towards alternative and Low-impact materials. More than 25 colleges from all over India submitted their entries for the competition. Out of these 10 entries were shortlisted for the audio visual round. The panel of the jury included Ms Shabnam Bassi, Secretary - GRIHA Council, Architect Swati Gupta, Manager – GRIHA Council, Architect Ankit Bhalla, Deputy Manager – GRIHA Council.

The GRIHA Trophy at the 62nd Annual NASA Convention in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 8th February 2020

The GRIHA Trophy architectural design completion was launched in 2013-14 and conducted successfully once again this year 2019-20 with support from Airport Authority of India (AAI). The Trophy brief required the students to design two and half level New Integrated Terminal Building of Bagdogra Airport. The design should tend towards a net-zero approach with a focus on optimizing energy and water consumption as well as waste management on site. More than 30 colleges from all over India submitted their entries for the competition. Out of these 11 entries were shortlisted for the audio visual round. The panel of the jury included Architect Gaurav Shorey, Architect Shruti Dimri & Ar Sangeeta Mahay, General Manager, AAI.

All these 3 entries presented their design at the WSDS (World Sustainable Development Summit) on 11th February 2019 at the thematic track – The GRIHA Trophy at NASA.

The GRIHA Trophy at the 58th annual NASA convention in Surat on 4th February 2016

The GRIHA Trophy Jury at 58th Annual NASA (National Association of Students of Architecture) Convention was conducted on 4th February 2016 at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat with support of Lotus Greens. The competition brief was "Learning by Seeing"- Imparting environmental education through a Sustainable School Campus. This year's GRIHA Trophy brief required the students to design a sustainable school for Lotus Greens development in Sector 89 Gurgaon.

The GRIHA Trophy architectural design competition was launched in 2013-14 and conducted successfully once again this year 2014-15 with support from Lotus Greens. Considering the recent growth in the residential real estate and their inclination to get GRIHA rating, the Trophy brief required the students to design a sustainable housing complex at a given location in NOIDA. Total 35 colleges from all over India submitted their entries for the competition. Out of these 12 entries were shortlisted for the audio visual round. The panel of the jury included famous Ar. Jaisim, Dr Ranee Vedamuthu (HOD Architecture, Anna University), Mr Gopal Krishnan (Director & Head - USGBC- Asia Pacific & Middle East), Ms Mili Majumdar (Director TERI & Secretary cum Treasurer,GRIHA Council) and Mr Ashwani Singh (Senior General Manager – Strategy, Lotus Greens).

Trophy: 2013-14

Award of The GRIHA trophy at 56th NASA(National Association for Students of Architecture), convention at Hyederabad. Date - 29th January 2014

Over 6500 students of architecture from 150 colleges across the country participated in the 56th National Convention of NASA (National Association for Students of Architecture), organised from 26-29th January at Hyderabad.

The Convention witnessed evaluation of design entries received for the GRIHA Trophy, launched with support from Lotus Greens, where the winning entries were awarded at the valedictory session on 29th January. SPA VIjaywada was adjudged as the winners while TKM College of Engineering Kollam were runners up

Jury for The GRIHA Trophy comprised Mr. Rajiv Mishra, Principal J J College of Architecture, Mumbai, Ms. Aruna Ramani Grover, Professor, School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, Mr. P Sahel, Vice Chairman, Lotus Greens, Mr.Somasundaram Senthil Kumar, National Sales Head – Projects, AIS, Mr. Karan Grover and Ms. Mili Majumdar.
