Atal Akshay urja bhawan

GRIHA Council is organising the 14th GRIHA Summit on 15th-16th December 2022 at India Habitat Center, New Delhi on the theme Towards Net Positive Habitats. As a final prelude to the Summit, a 'green building tour' is being organised to a GRIHA registered project Atal Akshaya Urja Bhawan in New Delhi on 14th December 2022. This project is the new headquarters of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Designed to be Net Zero Energy, the project uses a combination of climate responsive architecture with energy efficient technologies.

Some highlights of the Project:

  • The building uses a hybrid cooling system with a conventional and a radiant chiller. Radiant chillers are energy efficient- and don’t require Air Handling Units.
  • Further, the fresh air system is pre-cooled by toilet exhaust. The Building Management Systems is programmed to put a cap on the building load and optimize the running of various systems.
  • The building is designed to be net zero/ positive energy with on-site energy production. Along with the ‘Solar Wall’, the building also has an integrated solar roof and together it can potentially generate more than the building energy requirements.

The tour would demonstrate the various sustainable strategies being incorporated in the building design to make it an energy efficient and sustainable building. It is an exciting opportunity to explore green buildings and help create awareness about the importance of going green and can also serve as a case study reference for the delegates. The site visit will help to disseminate knowledge and create awareness on sustainable habitats.
